Corey Thompson is a skilled civil litigator with experience in complex, high-stakes disputes in state and federal courts. Corey’s practice focuses on public entity law and civil litigation.
Corey represents cities, counties, home rule municipalities, towns, and special districts and their employees in state and federal courts. He advises and defends clients in matters involving police and sheriff conduct, prisoner litigation, land use disputes, and employment claims.
Corey represents individuals and businesses across a wide range of industries in complex civil litigation. Corey has served on defense teams in significant matters, including an eight-figure corporate dispute that resulted in a complete defense verdict following a two-week trial. His work spans dispositive motions, discovery strategy, pretrial briefing, and in-court appearances.
Prior to joining private practice, Corey served for two years as a law clerk to the Honorable Stephanie L. Scoville, District Court Judge for the City and County of Denver. In that role, he researched and drafted orders across a broad civil docket, including rulings on motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, expert exclusion, and motions in limine, and assisted with jury and bench trials from voir dire through verdict.
Corey also completed federal judicial externships with the Honorable Michael E. Hegarty, U.S. Chief Magistrate Judge for the District of Colorado, and the Honorable Raymond A. Jackson, U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Virginia, where he drafted recommendations and orders on civil rights, constitutional, and criminal law matters.

In law school, Corey served as articles editor on the William & Mary Law Review and as an Editor on the Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Journal. He competed on the Transactional Law Competition Team, was a member of the merit-based honor society Phi Delta Phi, and acted as the 3L Representative for the Health Law & Policy Society. He also served as a research assistant to Professor Vivian Hamilton.

Corey graduated with English Honors with Highest Distinction and was named a Bastiat Honors Scholar through the Center for the Study of Government. He served as vice president of the Pre-Law Society and was a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success.
When he is not in the office, Corey is an avid distance runner, competing in half marathons locally and nationally, including the Colfax, Boulderthon, and Mesa half marathons. He volunteers as a judge for high school speech and debate tournaments and writes flash fiction.
