Sustainability
Sustainability, or Corporate Social Responsibility, is a corporation’s initiative to take responsibility for the company’s effects on environmental and social wellbeing. At BHGR, we understand that sustainability means fostering respect for people and other living things while at the same time using and managing environmental and economic resources wisely.
To show our commitment to being a sustainable law firm, we have adopted the American Bar Association’s ‘Triple Bottom Line’ Policy on Sustainability and use it as a guide for how to conduct our business on an economic, social, and environmental level.
Economic
We are committed to delivering high quality legal services in a timely and cost effective manner. Our approach has positioned our firm to survive and prosper economically. We respect our employees and foster a healthy work-life balance. BHGR is an equal opportunity employer.
Social
We recognize that our firm’s success is highly dependent on the success of the communities in which we work. BHGR is an active participant in the Supreme Court of Colorado’s Pro Bono Recognition Program where our attorneys dedicate time to providing pro bono legal services to persons of limited means and to non-profit and social welfare organizations. We also support many local organizations through civic and philanthropic efforts. A list of the organizations we support can be found here.
Environmental
Environmental responsibility is part of our firm’s culture, just as it is for many of our clients. We are aware that all businesses have an environmental impact and we are taking steps to reduce the size of the footprint we leave behind. We purchase paper and other products made from recycled materials and place a heavy emphasis on recycling within our offices. Over the next year, we will be adding composting to our Boulder office to help reduce our waste even more. We are also taking steps to ensure that a percentage of our electrical needs are from renewable sources such as wind and solar.
Renewable Energy and Clean Technology
BHGR is also working to help educate our clients and community to help make environmental changes on a larger scale. We recently added a Renewable Energy and Clean Technology practice group to assist our clients with all their renewable energy related needs. The firm draws upon the experience of our corporate and finance, intellectual property, environmental, water, real estate/land use and construction lawyers in order to provide comprehensive legal services for wind, solar and geothermal development projects, transmission projects, consulting and services agreements and intellectual property development and commercialization.

Renewable Energy Round Tables
With the addition of our Renewable Energy team, we have also begun hosting “Renewable Energy Roundtables.” Once a quarter we bring in an industry leader to discuss current trends and issues that companies are facing in the sector. These luncheon seminars help educate our staff, clients, and community members about developments and challenges in the renewable energy field. If you are interested in attending, or speaking, at one of our Round Tables, please contact Rudy Verner at rev@bhgrlaw.com.
