With over 40 years of experience, George has a keen ability to analyze legal issues and help his clients effectively resolve disputes.
George represents businesses and individuals in complex commercial, construction, insurance, and real estate transactions as well as in litigation and arbitration.
REAL ESTATE
George helps his clients buy and sell real property by negotiating and drafting purchase and sale, loan, and financing agreements. He assists his clients with title review, mitigating risk through title insurance, and addressing oil and gas, mineral, and water rights issues. George also advises his clients on all aspects of property entitlement and development. He works on transactions ranging from a million to a hundred million dollars and frequently works on farm and ranch, residential, multi-family, mixed-use, and commercial transactions and projects.
INSURANCE
Much of George’s law practice is focused on insurance law. He provides risk and coverage analysis for his clients and counsels them through the claims process. He also represents clients in coverage disputes concerning CGL, D&O, professional liability, title, and umbrella policies. George routinely helps his clients navigate complex insurance disputes involving multiple parties, insurers, and complicated subrogation issues.
LITIGATION AND ARBITRATION
George is a seasoned litigator who has tried dozens of trials in state and federal courts and in arbitration forums. He litigates a wide variety of matters, including agency, antitrust and business competition, bad faith breach of insurance contract, banking, consumer protection, commercial and construction contracts, construction defects, corporate disputes, fraud, insurance, intentional interference with contractual obligations, landlord/tenant, leases, and personal and real property disputes.
George is one of BHGR’s founding partners and longest-serving firm leaders. He was the firm’s managing partner from 2001-2016 and has served on BHGR’s Management Committee. He also mentors the firm’s younger attorneys. George’s vision, experience, and tireless efforts on the firm’s behalf helped BHGR become one of Colorado’s preeminent law firms.

George grew up in Houston, Texas, and practiced law there for sixteen years before moving to Colorado. He is a longtime member of the Boulder Chamber of Commerce and previously served on its Board of Directors. Outside of the office, George enjoys keeping up with his six grandchildren and spending time with his family. He likes to hunt, fish, bicycle, and travel.
George has been selected as a Super Lawyer on multiple occasions (2006, 2007, 2009, 2021, 2023), an honor bestowed on the top 5% of attorneys based on peer recognition and professional achievement. He has also been selected as a Best Lawyer (2023 & 2024), one of the oldest and most respected peer-review companies in the legal profession.
George received the Richard Schaden Adopted Alumnus Award from the University of Colorado Law School in 2022. In 2019, the Boulder County Business Hall of Fame inducted George into its ranks based on his demonstration of the highest level of business ethics and commitment to innovation in business and philanthropic practices in Boulder County.
