On Thursday, April 11, 2019, BHGR Partner, Jon Banashek, hosted the Centaurus High School Senior AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) class for a field experience.
The students met with Mr. Banashek and then traveled to the Boulder County Justice Center, where they had a presentation from elected District Attorney Michael Dougherty, Community Justice Services Division Manager Monica Rotner, Administrative Office Manager Jack Hubbard of the Boulder Probation Department and watched proceedings in Judge Jonathan P. Martin’s courtroom. They finished their day by meeting privately with Judge Nancy Salomone.
Each student that participates in the AVID Program at Centaurus must attend 10 field experiences during their senior year of high school that involve several different types of career path options. In addition to the experiences, the students must also spend one day shadowing someone who works in the career path that they are considering. All of the students that attended last week’s event have been accepted to one or more colleges or universities.
This is the 7th year that BHGR has hosted a Centaurus High School AVID Field Experience. Each year our student numbers continue to grow. We are proud to be a part of this program!
